The farmhouse smiled as I walked down the lane
My heart was on fire for here it was plain
That life was so free for a little child
By the ambience now and forever beguiled
It was always the same

Life for this child was never quite tame
Many hard knocks did her small form sustain
But always she sang as she walked by the field
The farmhouse smiled

Now it is gone and the child is in pain
But she never forgets thinks again and again
Of the safety she found when her life was defiled
And the love that she found ‘mongst the thorns that grew wild
Never or ever to wax and to wane
The farmhouse smiled
