“I’ll be a bit late meeting you on Monday,” he said, nonchalantly.”
Pru groaned inwardly. This was getting too repetitive now.
“I’ve got to go to the DENTIST,” he explained. “Dental emergency.”
They were meant to be meeting in his office to discuss plans for the future. At the rate it was going though, there wasn’t going to be any future. It didn’t seem to bother him though. He arrived late for their meeting sliding his feet across the ground, his arms outstretched as if dancing with a partner. That was the problem – he was a complete charmer. He could get away with anything!
“Cath’s coming home at the weekend,” he announced. “Want to come to dinner.”
Well, Cath always had interesting things to talk about, so Pru instantly accepted. Cath was his daughter and she worked as a Travel Editor on a well known newspaper. It was all she had ever wanted to do, having been bitten by the wanderlust bug at a very young age. She got to go to some very interesting and far flung places, in the interests of her job. Indeed, one Christmas Day saw her in Timbuctoo!
On the Saturday Pru called on Des’s wife Lillian, to see if there was anything she could do to help. Lillian was wrestling with a huge SALMON that she had cooked ready for dinner. She was attempting to prise all the bones out with her fingers. She confessed to Pru that she didn’t normally cook fish, because she didn’t feel confident with it, but this being a special occasion, she thought she would have a go. Pru watched her, listening to the constant sighs and tut tuts as Lillian tussled with the salmon.
“You’re in for a treat,” Lillian said, eventually. “Cath has just come back from the Great Bear Rainforest. I’m shre she will have many tales to tell.”
Pru sat back, allowing Lillian to continue with her salmon. It would indeed be a very interesting occasion.
