Years ago I heard a quote that has haunted me ever since.
“A truly original work does not exist.”
I refused to believe it. I made it my goal to prove this naysayer wrong, working on stories and fantasies, hopelessly trying to keep my ideas completely unbiased by culture and existing stories. This failed, and I learned that fiction writing is not my strong point.
So I moved to music. Surely I could create something completely new, I knew music like the back of my hand, how hard could it be? Again, no luck. I could adapt and work around existing tunes and ideas. I could even create a brand new melody. But that cruel quote was constantly peering over my shoulder, picking at my resolve.That’s not unique, I’m sure someone in the world has come up with that phrase before.
