#RDP WEDNESDAY – Rain

RDP Wednesday: rain

There is one place in England where it seems to rain all the time. The Lake District, and particularly at the head of the Borrowdale Valley at Seathwaite. It is the most beautiful place that I have ever been in England and we have spent many happy weeks camping right there at Seathwaite. Not once did we experience rain even though it is noted for its high rainfall levels. It is the most idyllic place and the campsite where we always camped was very basic, but we always pitched our tent right by the river that runs through the site. Of course, I spent much time playing around in the river in the evenings and I thought I was in heaven.

However, sometimes we camped near to Ambleside and on one occasion it rained solidly for three weeks. We had booked at the site for three weeks, and had planned to climb many fells but in the end it was such a washout that we could not do it. Everywhere, including of course the mountains and fells, was obliterated by the constant rain. Our tent was never dry as we got condensation in it and whatever we did to try and dry our things including our sleeping bags, we could not manage to get anything dry at all. We did not despair though and go home. Each night we said that the next day would be better. It was not. Until the very last day, and what do you think happened? Yes, you got it. The sun came out. We had only one good day in that whole three week holiday. Would we do it all over again? A resounding YES. They were the best days of our lives.
