Sheila had endured years of violence and abuse from Gerry. Always submissive she simply took it. Some people said that she must like it because she didn’t leave. She had tried to keep it hidden, but she could not. Rarely did she smile. That had gone long ago. Each time it happened she vowed it would be that last. She would get away somehow. But she had nowhere to go. She cried to the heavens but the heavens did not hear her. Then one day she broke. She had taken too much. When Gerry came home from work and began threatening her again because his dinner was not on the table she took the kitchen knife and stabbed him. She had been driven too far. Then she rang the police and told them she had killed her husband.
